Gwisg Calico Cymru - Calico Dress Cymru
is the first ‘sister’ of the Red Dress by Kirstie Macloed. Having travelled to over 50 countries, gathering embroidered stories from diverse groups, the Red Dress is internationally acclaimed, holding Guinness World Record for most people having stitched one dress.
Calico Dress Cymru asks ‘what does Wales mean to us?’ Everyone is welcome, from new to experienced embroiderers. The cloth holds personal stories from across Wales - quotes and lyrics, favourite places and traditions, the hopes and dreams of people in Wales.
This wearable artwork is travelling around Wales, led by project artist Menna Buss. First commissioned by Amgueddfa Cymru, it will become part of the museum to be enjoyed by future generations.
In collaboration with North Wales-based Cwmni Dawns Hedydd Dance company, Calico Dress Cymru is inspiring new work in Caernarfon! Co-created by Hedydd vertical dancers Lisa Spaull, Angharad Jones and Kseniia Feditovykh with community participants and Menna Buss Textiles artist, a performance exploring our relationships with clothing will take place in Galeri on Thursday 16th July.
