Cymraeg Mandinka Connections | Mari Mathias & Sura Susso

Cymraeg Mandinka Connectionsis a musical collaboration between Welsh singer Mari Mathias and Gambian kora player Sura Susso, exploring the shared tradition of storytelling through music in Wales and Gambia. Sura, from a griot (Jali) lineage, brings the rich oral history of West African Mandinka culture, while Mari draws on Welsh folklore and mythology in her alternative folk style.

Both artists perform in their native languages, celebrating and preserving their cultural roots. Their work bridges ancient and modern stories, aiming to connect audiences with the enduring relevance of folklore and promote the continued use of Welsh and Mandinka languages.

Runtime:45 minutes – 20 minute interval – 45 minutes
